Network security policies are as varied as the IT networks they’re designed for. That’s why we start by taking inventory of servers, routers, external access requirements, sensitive data, and backup procedures. From there, we identify areas that could compromise the security of the network.

Outlining the security policies
For each vulnerable area we identify, we ask questions that trigger the necessary policy and procedure decisions. Who will be allowed external access, for example? Should the password requirement for remote users be more stringent than that for internal users? How often is data backed up? Who has access to data backups? And so on.

Documenting the security policies
We draft a security policy that incorporates not only the decisions made during the earlier stages, but all supporting information. If, for example, your staff decides to implement a procedure for granting and documenting a user’s remote access privileges, we recommend and incorporate that procedure into the policy. In the end, we deliver a security policy that addresses security concerns and vulnerabilities for the entire IT network.
